Two young leaders to represent India at Bayer Youth Ag Summit 2019 in Brazil
New Delhi, October 24, 2019: The fourth edition of the Bayer Youth Ag Summit will take place in Brasilia, Brazil from November 4-6, in partnership with Nuffield Brazil. The Youth Ag Summit is part of the Bayer Agricultural Education Program. It brings together young change-makers aged 18 to 25 years to help solve the challenges of feeding a growing population.
For this year’s application process, each prospective participant pitched an idea to tackle food insecurity in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Bayer received over 2,800 applications from 140 countries. Each application was reviewed by a panel of experts before choosing 100 delegates representing 45 countries. The chosen delegates include entrepreneurs, farmers, students, plant scientists, and economists – to name a few. Their ideas focus on tackling challenges as varied as gender equality in farming, sustainable agriculture, youth education, food waste and climate change. Despite their varied backgrounds, they share a commitment for driving progress towards a world without hunger.
India will be represented at the Youth Ag Summit 2019 by Nithya Srinivasan, a 22 year-old from Bengaluru and Raghav Sarin, a 22 year-old from New Delhi. Nithya is a B.A. in Economics from the University of Delhi and is currently pursuing her Masters in International Development Economics at Yale University. She is an international development researcher, a passionate educator and is keen to contribute towards sustainable food production & consumption for tackling food insecurity and providing quality nutrition for India’s growing population. Raghav holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Delhi. He is an entrepreneur and an UI/UX (User Interface / User Experience) designer. He wants to contribute towards food security with technology-based solutions that can create a large-scale impact in Indian agriculture.
For the next generation to be empowered to create a better tomorrow, they need to be given a voice today. The Youth Ag Summit will function as an idea incubator for the 100 chosen delegates: helping them turn their ideas into reality and equipping them with the skills needed to realize their projects. They will also hear from experts and participate in field trips to learn more about the agricultural industry.
